If you are at this page, then you've probably realized that updating the Firmware and Tune Revision on the X3's and Livewire's can be difficult. This is a Step by Step process on how to do it.

INSTALL THE SOFTWARE
  • With the Tuner unplugged we need to install the SCT Device Updater Software.
    This can be done by clicking here: SCT Device Updater
  • Let it install in the default location, clicking next, next, next until you get to Finish. You should see a New Icon on your desktop for the SCT Device Updater.
INSTALL THE DRIVERS
  • Once installed, Plug in the Tuner and wait for the Found New Hardware Wizard to Pop Up.
  • It may ask you "Can Windows connect to Windows Update to Search for Software?" If it does, click "No, Not at this Time" and press Next.
  • At the Next Window, Select "Install Software Automatically (Recommended)" and click Next. Windows will search and Install the drivers for your device, Click Finish to Finish the Driver Installation.
  • NOTE: If a Found New Hardware Wizard did not pop up, and you get an error in the next step, go to the section for Installing Drivers Manually.
SAVE THE FIRMWARE
  • From our Downloads Page, you can Save the Firmware. I'd save it to the desktop, so it's easier to find later.
SAVE THE TUNE REVISION
  • From our Downloads Page, you can Save the Tune Revision. I'd save it to the desktop, so it's easier to find later.
HOW TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE
  • Now that the software and drivers are installed. We are ready to update the firmware.
  • Unplug the Device, and Plug it in while holding down the Firmware Mode Button.
    • Note: For the X3/SF3 the Firmware button is the Cancel Button. For the Livewire, the Firmware button is the Jog Wheel.
  • Open the X3/Livewire Updater Software, there should be a new icon on your desktop. Yellow, White, and Orange with the letters SCT on it.
  • Once the software is open, Click on the UPDATE FIRMWARE BUTTON.
  • Clicking on the Update Firmware Button will open a browse window. Click on the Desktop Icon on the left (or Navigate to the Location that you saved the Firmware File)
  • You should see a file with the Extension LWU. Click on the Firmware File, then Click Open.
  • A Pop Up Stating That the Vehicle Must be Returned to Stock pops up, Click OK.
  • Then The “DO NOT DISCONNECT THE DEVICE WHILE UPDATING FIRMWARE” screen will display. This will clear when the update is complete.
  • Programming Complete at the bottom left corner of the X3/LiveWire Updater Software means it’s done.
  • Next Unplug the Device and Plug it back in Regular Mode without holding down any buttons.
HOW TO UPDATE THE TUNE REVISION
  • Now that the tuner is plugged in regular mode, and the X3/Livewire Updater Software is still open.
  • Press the TRANSFER FILE BUTTON.
  • Clicking on the Transfer File Button will open a browse window. Click on the Desktop Icon on the left (or Navigate to the Location that you saved the Firmware File)
  • You should see a file with the Extension LFU. Click on the Tune Revision File, then Click Open.
  • You will see Transfer of File Complete at the bottom left corner of the X3/LiveWire Updater Software, this means it’s done.
  • UPDATING THE FW AND TUNE REV ON X3/SF3/LIVEWIRE IS NOW COMPLETE.
